We want to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you, and to tell you about our delicious, lean natural Angus and Jersey beef. Our farm, in the Cates Family for over 40 years, has produced beef on its pastures for over 100 years. Our Angus and Jersey steers are raised “free range” and without growth hormones or antibiotics. Steers are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished spring through autumn. Flavor and tenderness are enhanced through the "aging" process prior to packaging. Our beef has less excess fat than conventional feedlot-finished beef, and research is now showing that grass-fed beef and dairy products are significantly higher in naturally occurring compounds which help the body to prevent cancer and heart disease. Our beef is a delicious and healthy product. It is available as steaks, roasts, lean ground beef, summer sausage, beef sticks or jerky; and delivered to your door with a smile!

When you purchase Cates Family Farm beef, you are buying the best and safest in the market place. You are buying SOURCED Angus or Jersey beef, never fed ANY animal byproducts and never mixed at processing with other beef. You are buying lean, delicious healthy food high in CLA, Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamins B (complex) and E, and protein.

Natural Jersey Beef available in addition to our Angus.
We are again offering Jersey beef raised on our grass pastures for the past 18 months, in exactly the same way as our Angus beef has always been raised. We are offering Jersey beef because it is delicious tender beef that marbles slightly on pasture, and it can be offered at a lower price than Angus; this is particularly important for our household customers, and this was the goal when we began our business many years ago. We purchase all of our steers –Angus and Jersey- from area farmers, and we offer significantly higher prices to our partner farms than is available through commodity channels. When you purchase our beef you are supporting local farmers and a local, healthy food supply system; and everyone benefits!

We will again be offering 100% Grass-Fed and Grass-Finished Beef!
In the earlier years our beef received some corn fed at finishing, but now we have moved to 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef. The best grass-fed beef comes off pasture after the spring or autumn flush of grass, and before the summer heat or winter cold sets in. We have 100% grass-fed beef available now. If you would like some of our Angus or Jersey grass-fed beef, call us soon to reserve your order.

Walk & Ride Against Childhood Cancer was last held October 2003
We hosted 250 folks last year, all out on our farm- on foot or on horseback- enjoying the beautiful Wyoming Valley colors. We asked visitors to ‘have fun and save a life’. We want to, again, sincerely thank our sponsors: Braes Feed Ingredients, Wheeling, IL; Cardinal CG, Spring Green; Gingras, Cates & Luebke, SC, Madison; and The Kraemer Company, Plain. Cedar Grove Cheese, Plain, WI donated delicious cheese, and the Cates Family Farm provided the natural beef for the Bar-B-Q meal. Many friends and volunteers contributed: Bluegrass music, cowboy poetry, horse-drawn wagon rides, and raffle prizes! All proceeds from the event went to support Childhood Cancer Research through the MACC Fund, Milwaukee. Kim and Dick will continue to follow their passion for helping kids with cancer, but in new and different directions.

We make deliveries every week!
So if you have a special meal coming up, guests, or you just feel like steak this “Wednesday”, simply call or email us ahead with your order. We’ll let you know what day we’ll drop by, and all you have to do is leave a picnic cooler out (with ice in a plastic bag or milk jug). We’ll leave your order and an invoice, and you can send a check. Simple.
